Holiday Staple with a Twist


One holiday staple is rolls. Although more prevalent during the holidays, they are served with almost every meal. A good source of protein, complex carbohydrates, high in niacin, riboflavin, and other B complex vitamins, provide good amounts of iron and calcium and whole-grain breads are high in fiber. Try this great recipe and give regular old rolls a healthy and delicious twist!
Parmesan Garlic Rolls
(Serves 12)
Ingredients:
Directions:
  1. Combine 1-1/2 cups flour, yeast, sugar, salt and garlic powder in a large mixer bowl.
  2. Mix water, milk and butter in a saucepan and heat until very warm (120 degrees F to 130 degrees F).
  3. Add to dry ingredients and mix for 2 minutes. Stir in enough additional flour to make soft dough.
  4. Cover and let dough rest 10 minutes in bowl.
  5. Portion dough evenly into 12 to 15 greased muffin cups (2-1/2 x 1-1/4 inches).
  6. Cover; let rise in warm, draft free place until doubled in bulk, about 35 minutes.
  7. Combine egg white with 1 tablespoon water.
  8. Carefully brush tops of rolls with egg mixture; sprinkle with cheese. Bake at 375 degrees F for 15 to 18 minutes, or until lightly browned on top. Remove from pans and cool on wire rack.
